Iconic Itasca Meridian 40U

2011 Itasca Meridian 40u aclassrvsale

Today’s great deal is an iconic 2011 Itasca Meridian 40U. I found this baby at a dealership right down the street from me and it’s going for almost $7,000 below low retail in the Nadaguides!

About Itasca

Everyone knows the name Winnebago, but what you may not know is that Itasca and Winnebago are exactly the same and manufactured on the same assembly line. They only differ in decor, interior and exterior colors and paint schemes. So all the same quality and stellar reputation that Winnebago is known for can be equally applied to Itasca.

With 90,000 miles on the odometer this 7 year old unit has been broken in and is seasoned and aesthetically comes across as practically a new unit.

Let’s take a look inside…

Your first impression of the unit is …spaciousness. With 4 slides outs it opens up wide on both sides giving that true homey feel.

Other great features include the leather upholstery, fireplace, bath and a half, queen sized bed, and porcelain toilet. The forest cherry hardwood in the interior is stunning. With the stacked washer/dryer combo, tons of drawers and large closet, if you are a full-timer you will be set with all the space and comfort of this unit.

Here are some live opinions recorded from a few folks’ impressions upon walking into this model.

Independence RV

This dealership is located in Winter Garden, FL and is an exclusive Newmar dealer, however they do take your trade in so they are able to offer a few varieties motorhomes of different lines and classes.

They got their start in 1985 as a small dealership with just six employees. Through stellar service and repeat customers they have grown enough to move to a 5 acre facility and have become a Newmar Authorized Factory Service Center. Folks come from all over the southeast to get their Newmars serviced according to factory specs.

Want to earn extra cash on the road? – Drive for Uber Eats

Looking for a fun way to earn money while pursuing your RV dream? Drive for Uber Eats and get paid instantly when you need it as well as being able to work in most major cities in the US.

Why I prefer to work Uber Eats

Uber has taken the world by storm and has provided millions of working folk a way to earn extra income. The application process is easy and you can be working within days of being approved.

I have been an Uber driver for about two years and have worked it in conjunction with another great side hustle job called Shipt. I love being my own boss, having no one to answer to but my customers, and being able to earn as much or as little as I want.

When I first started Uber it was as a taxi driver. That quickly was something I gave up because I found having succession of different arses in my car just didn’t suit me. I then switched to Uber Eats and have been happy ever since.

There are pros and cons to working each, but at the end of the day I choose to work Uber Eats exclusively and here are some of my pros.

  • Ferrying food is less complicated than ferrying people
  • Less wear and tear on my vehicle
  • able to take numerous trips at close distances
  • discovering great local restaurants that I never noticed are right in my vicinity.
  • You can work UberEats practically anywhere

Working Uber Eats is a breeze

Picking up food orders is so easy! And lots of times I don’t have to even get out of the car because the customer is often waiting in the driveway and will come the driver window.

There’s no risk of someone vomiting in my car, being drunk, talking my ear off or flat out murdering me when my front seat passenger is a McDonalds bag!

Once you find a particularly popular restaurant you can literally sit in the parking lot, pick up deliver, return to the same restaurant wash, rinse, repeat. This allows your trips to stack up fast.

You also get turned on to many eateries right in your area that you never knew about.

I discovered the best cheese steak sub 5 minutes from me that I never noticed although I had driven by it almost daily. If you are a foodie Uber Eats will expand your gastronomic world.

And lastly you can work it ANYWHERE. It is in most major US cities, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

The Only Con of Uber Eats

Uber Eats’ only con is this…it simply doesn’t pay a lot. Now this is totally subjective because I’m sure you can make $500.00 or more a week if you worked it multiple hours a day. But I tend to do it as a back up or filler job with other side hustles that I have.

With Uber Eats you won’t set the world on fire financially, but I like it, especially in conjunction with working Shipt because when you need the same day money you can do instant cash out.

Say your short on a bill and need an extra $50 dollars that day. You can hop in the car, make the money relatively quickly then pay the bill the the same day.

Perks and Programs

There are some great perks that come with working Uber Eats. Here is what you can receive:

  • Discounts on cell service with Verizon, At&T and Sprint.
  • Discount on Intuit Quickbooks
  • Access to Health Care insurance for freelancers through Stride
  • Discounts for services and products at Autozone, Firestone, Jiffy Lube, Maaco, Meineke, Safelite Auto Glass, The Ticket Clinic, Wheel Works, and Sears Auto.

Renovated 1996 Newmar Dutch Star

1996 Dutchstar aclassrvsale
This 1996 Newmar Dutch Star 3757 is not my typical featured deal. The fact that it is 22 years old is something to consider, but it has been so thoroughly and beautifully renovated that it qualified as something I would consider a good deal.

An RV is like the human body. If you take care of it, it will give you many years of pleasure. When a coach has been stored long term indoors, has meticulous maintenance records and regular servicing, no matter the age, it should be considered as a cost effective way to experience a luxury coach such as Newmar.

If you’re planning to spend lots of time in RV parks you should keep in mind that many of them have an age requirement and won’t allow motorhomes older than 10 years in the park. However, if your rig looks good some parks will work with you.

This coach features:

This 38 ft. diesel model has only one slide and 86,000 miles on it so roughly 3,900 miles per year driven. It can comfortably sleep 5 and has 3 awnings to chill outside with.

What caught my attention was not so much the outside but the beautiful interior work done. It has many upgrades and has been completely renovated.

Let’s see the renovations…

Other new replacements include pull out beds, memory foam mattress, A/C unit, faucets, counter tops, toilet, batteries, starter, power inverter, water heater, and tires all within last 3 months. Plus the cabinets have been resurfaced.

Let’s have a look.

RV Loans After Bankruptcy – Should You Try It?

How easy is it to acquire RV loans after bankruptcy? Should you try it and what are the chances you’ll be approved? With a bankruptcy 2 years past in my rear view mirror I would like to share my recent experiences in trying to acquire an RV loan as well as the conclusion I eventually came to.

Deciding to Declare Chapter 7

bankruptcy aclassrvsale

Having to declare bankruptcy was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. Due to losing my job and having lived “beyond my means” I had racked up around $80,000 in debt including school loans.

There is such a stigma attached to bankruptcy and knowing it would be on my credit report for seven years, I really deliberated long and hard before deciding to go that route.

As well as the hit to your credit, there is also the emotional toll it takes of feeling like you have failed at your financial life. But here are the reasons I decided to take the plunge:

  • It’s a fairly common legal procedure used by many corporations and prominent individuals.
  • It would give me a fresh financial start
  • If used only once and NOT as a way of life… and if I could implement a new way to operate financially, in other words, live by the philosophy that if I couldn’t pay cash then I really couldn’t afford it, it would be worth it.

So I went ahead with it and got rid of about $35,000 dollars in debt minus school loans. Within 3 months of completion, I was receiving credit card offers.

I opened up a few lines of credit, maintained a zero balance, starting living within my means (which did require me to make adjustments like starting to use a budget), my credit rose from 550 to 683 in about 2 years. Not the best, but certainly good enough I thought to apply for a RV loan and get approved, even at elevated interest rates.

Applying for an RV Loan After Bankruptcy

rv loans after bankruptcy aclassrvsale

Boy was I wrong. So the time had come for me to move out of my travel trailer and into a Class A motor home. I had gone down to my Lazy Days dealership, had a great experience in choosing a RV, and was looking at a 2005 Damon Integra for around $30,000. I knew that I could afford the payments and thought hell, I might not get the best interest rate, but SOMEBODY would approve me.

I’m going to make a long story short. I had 5 different financial institutions decline my application. Reason given on every one…bankruptcy.

You see, it didn’t matter whether I could pay the loan or not, the stigma of bankruptcy on my financial record had left me dead in the water and nobody would touch me with a 10-foot pole, from credit unions to even lenders that dealt with bad credit.

It did not help that I didn’t have a huge down payment to put down, maybe that would have made the difference. It all led me to one conclusion.

Starting My RV Life Debt Free

I took it as a sign that perhaps I should start thinking about a debt free life. How great it would be to walk in and just purchase my RV outright….all mine free and clear. I began thinking about starting my RV life debt free.

How much easier it would be to not have a loan payment? How long would it take me to save up the money? How much of a discount could I get if I walked in all cash?

Living beyond my means and over financing things is what had gotten me in trouble in the first place. Committing to better money management and a debt free life would justify the humiliation of my bankruptcy and would make me feel like I learned the lesson.

So that is what I propose to do. Save the money up until I can buy my first rig with cash!

Noble Newmar Mountain Aire 2008

mountainaire 2008 aclassrvsale

This very noble Newmar Mountain Aire 2008 is on sale in Tampa, FL. It is one of my dream rigs and is being sold at around $1500 below low retail.

The Newmar brand is synonymous with “high end”. Even if you are buying an older model, you will be sure to experience a more luxurious and homelike experience when you go with their line.

This 2008 is a diesel with 3 air conditioners, washer/dryer combo, 4 slides, an upgraded freezer, upgraded shower walls, and an outside entertainment center.

Some especially cool features are a dishwasher, central vacuum, and home theater. A nice extra is that there were no previous pets so if you have one they can mark fresh territory.

Let’s see the interior…

Featured 5-Star Seller: Lazydays
lazydays tampa aclassrvsale

I want that planter lol! The next best thing I could do was take a photo.

Lazydays Tampa is a huge dealership sprawled across more than 100 acres. It has locations in various places throughout the US: Tampa (closest to me), 3 cities in Colorado including Denver, Minneapolis (newest), and Tucson.

I took a ride over to my local Lazydays and had a great experience talking with one of their top sales people Eddie Johnson.

Eddie lazydays aclassrvsale

Eddie drove me around the HUGE parking lot and explained to me what the Lazy Days difference is. “We give you the total package! We pride ourselves on the fact the we provide every service you may want. No need to go anywhere else.”

Lazy days has it’s own RV resort. They also have sites where you can hook up your rig and move your belongings over at your leisure if you are doing a trade in.

The overall impression I got after visiting them is that they seem to support RV life holistically, from supplying a staggering selection of vehicles for purchase to providing in house RV training and seminars year round.

Even if you did not purchase your RV with them you get access to the classes and will they will even teach you how to drive.

For those who like first class, there is the elite Crown Club which allows for membership benefits such as flying you in for free so you can drive your RV home, clubhouse amenities with gourmet meals, and complementary exterior washes.

It was an absolute pleasure to visit the dealership and Eddie will be my go to when I’m ready to upgrade.

How Shipt Shopping Can Help Support Your RV Dream

Unless you are debt free and financially independent, finding ways to make money while on the road is a priority. Many people pursue online work like blogging, e-commerce, or work from home positions which are great, but today I would like to inform you as to how Shipt shopping can help to support your RV dream.

What is Shipt?

what is shipt aclassrvsale

Shipt got started in 2014 and is going strong in 43 states across the US.

It is a delivery service that partners with grocery and big name department stores like Publix, Winn Dixie, Harris Teeter, Costco, Target and are constantly expanding.

Much like Uber Eats, it is an independent contractor job and requires you to use your own vehicle.

Everything is handled through the app even the initial interview. You answer a few questions on a video clip and send it in. If they hire you they will send you a debit card to get started and the fun begins.

Nothing is required for you to work for them besides valid a driver’s license, registration/insurance, a good cell plan and your own car.

The company will give you the first Shipt shirts free. You can also purchase all types of accessories from them like cooler bags, hoodies, and car signs. However you are not required to wear their logo, you can dress as you please.

Useful items I have found are a foldable, portable cart and a cell phone holder that attaches to my cart. The cart is very handy for when you deliver to high rises and have heavier or multiple items and the cell holder allows me to work hands free.  These are the ones I use.

Get it on eBay
Get It On Ebay

How it works

Shipt is extremely easy to work and to use. Customers make orders which come straight to your phone. Shopping the orders are a breeze with a very friendly app interface and scanner that won’t let you make mistakes.

shipt app aclassrvsale

Deliver groceries or other items to busy moms, single dads, elderly parents, busy working singles,  folks home sick from work, or people who just hate shopping!

Shipt pays weekly which is very convenient and there are multiple ways to make money… from the order itself, to promotional pay to the tips.

Of course how much you make depends on many factors such as how many orders you do a week, your shopper rating, and if you are full or part-time. Average pay is around $500 if you take 25-30 orders a week.

Tips to make more money with Shipt

Ways to make max money with Shipt include the following:

  • Have a high shopper rating. This means you deliver ON TIME and your order is highly accurate. You will get higher tips and be sent more work based on your rating.
  • Look for those promotional orders. There are times when Shipt gets so swamped with orders and don’t have enough people working to cover them so they start doling out anywhere from $2-$25 on top of your order and tip pay. Some folks only take the promo jobs to make max money per order.
  • Set yourself up on your own schedule and TAKE THE ORDERS WHEN THEY COME! This way you will be sent orders first because your acceptance rate which affects your overall rating will be high.
  • You can also make money by referring other people to Shipt.

The Perks of Shipt

It lends itself well to RV life as it is just 8 states shy of being nationwide so you can work it almost anywhere you travel and SET YOUR OWN SCHEDULE.

Shipt map aclassrvsale

Working Shipt will allow you to get to know the areas in which you currently reside better and give you a real sense of the town and people. You will also know all the sales specials when you do your own shopping:-).

Shipt provides a stellar service that provides real value to the people who work it and use it. It is a company with a corporate culture that has a heart, which is always a plus in my book.

Working Shipt in conjunction with UberEats is a great combo to maximize earning potential during the hours you want to work.

You also get the service for free as a member if you want to use it yourself.

Check out one Shipt shoppers perspective here:

I have worked Shipt for 2 years and still I love it. As far as I’m concerned I’m getting paid to get my 10,000 steps in and the weekly money comes in very handy.

Depending on your situation it can definitely have a place in helping to support your RV life.

Terrific 2006 Travel Supreme DS04

2006 Travel Supreme aclassrvsale

I found this tantalizing Travel Supreme model on sale at just a little above low retail. With only 44,000 miles on it over a 12-year period it presents a great opportunity to experience a higher end coach at an excellent price.

Right off the bat I can tell you this be one of the coolest paint jobs I’ve seen in a while. If this baby was parked at a Walmart I might hang around gawking at it for a while.

About Travel Supreme

The 2006 line presents with convenient features such as a DSI water heater ( which means you can switch it on and off with an electric switch), the arctic insulation package to help survive the winter and washer/dryer combo. The interior is upgraded with nice cabinetry, kitchen plank flooring and upgraded counters.

Travel Supreme is no longer in business. My research says they started out making luxury travel trailers and then evolved in to making motorhomes. It is rumored that the original owners were ex-Newmar employees, another upscale RV line, which doesn’t surprise me as the interiors seem to have similar designs. Reading reviews from Travel Supreme owners, I couldn’t find many complainers.

Some quotes included:

  • “the best coach we ever owned”
  • “roomy and elegant”
  • “no problems”
  • “well-made”
  • “easy to drive”

Let’s take a look at the interior

2006 travel supreme living aclassrvsale

Look at that rich wood flooring. Leather is always an upscale plus and there is even a place to play chess to the left 🙂

I always like to give a more comprehensive view of the interior so here it is…

You can find this unit at a dealership in South Carolina. They do quite a bit of online business as well and have numerous good reviews according to their website. Of course, I went to the BBB to see what they had to say. They only had 4 complaints. Not bad at all for a dealership their size.

3 Surprising Advantages of Full Time Living In An Rv

There are lots of pros about rv living. After 10 years I am happy to say that I am still at it. Here are 3 surprising advantages of full time living in a RV.

Cleaning takes 30 minutes tops!Cleaning 3 surprising advantages aclassrvsale

My cleaning routine is as follows

  • Wash the few dishes my smallish sink holds
  • Sweep out or vacuum the space which for my 30 ft unit is about 200 square feet.
  • Clean out the shower, sink, and toilet in less than 10 minutes.
  • Put things that are laying about in their respective storage areas.
  • Take out the trash
  • Make the bed

Other deeper cleaning tasks such as cleaning out the oven (which currently serves as where I store my pots), microwave, upholstery and cabinetry not withstanding, my typical weekly cleaning takes about 20 minutes.

Boom! All done and ready to head out into the great yonder. My current home base is the Winter Garden RV Resort  where they keep the grounds cut and weeded saving me even more time.

Other aspects of keeping things tidy inside depends on your situation such as whether you have pets or kids, but if you are like me and like to keep a tight ship, RV life lends itself very well to being able to use your valuable time on things other than cleaning!

My core living expenses are around $1200 per month!

core living expenses 3 surprising advantages aclassrvsale

Here are my monthly living expenses in a nutshell.  Currently I am in a travel trailer and am stationary so this will not include class A expenses such as gas, maintenance and insurance.

Expenses are sure to change when I upgrade and I will happily share that as well. But for now…

  • Lot rental – $494.00 (This is rather pricey but the park is in a great location so…)
  • Electric- $50.00
  • Auto loan- $120.00 (I own a smart car)
  • Auto insurance- $95.00
  • Verizon Wireless– $122.00 (Your thinking pricey right? But it’s unlimited data and covers my cell and internet! It also includes my mobile hotspot which provides by far the best service I have had and I’ve tried everything from Sprint to AT&T to Boost! You get what you pay for.)
  • Dental plan- $36
  • Medical $26
  • Massage Envy $59 (This is not necessarily a living expense but I consider it to be a must!)
  • Food, Gas, Misc $200 (Now keep in mind I drive a smart car, bargain shop, and am a frequent guest at my mother’s dinner table 🙂
  • Cable- $0 comes with lot rental

All together we are looking at around $1200 a month. Now of course there are many other miscellaneous expenses I have not listed, but this gives you a core view to see how cost effective this lifestyle can be. I have seen many people come to the park to stay while they are saving for a home or otherwise are in a position where they need to save money or pay off debt.

No mooches able to move in!

mooching 3 surpising advantages aclassrvsale

This is a particular perk that I have found useful. As someone who enjoys living alone there has been more than one occasion in which circumstances have dictated that a friend or family member needs accommodations either immediately or for an extended period.

I simply shrug and tell them “Hey, I live in what is essentially a tiny home, there’s only room for one”. They don’t press me too hard as this lifestyle is an acquired taste and I’m happy to say it keeps mooches off my couch!

What about you? Have you found your own perks to the RV life? I would love to hear them so please leave a comment below.

Luxurious Legacy 34A – Forest River 2018

Legacy 34A 2018 aclassrvsale

This stunning Class A is produced by Forest River, a Berkshire Hathaway company. With 3 slide outs, double recliners, a washer and dryer, and faux wood flooring, it’s being sold for ALMOST $20,000 BELOW LOW RETAIL as per the Nadaguides.

Notable Features…..

Your first impression when you enter a Forest River model is….nice. I know this from experience because one of my neighbors had upgraded from a pop up camper to Forest River travel trailer. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised by the decor and the somewhat upscale feel.

This new unit has zero miles. Buying new as opposed to a used unit has its pros and cons. One pro being as the first owner you definitely know the maintenance history and will be under warranty.

Most obvious con is it depreciates considerably once you drive it off the lot, but you don’t buy RVs for their long term investment value 🙂

This camper looks really comfortable. It has 3 slide outs…one being a full wall slide, so it has a nice wide open feel.

Notable are its 2 air conditioners to keep it nice and cool inside and it’s outside entertainment center if you like watching sports or movies with friends outdoors.

Forest River decor is made to make the unit have more of a residential feel. It also has smart and creative spaces for keeping the things organized.

Looking at the interior…

The 34A floor plan has a combined kitchen and living area so it’s comfortable to entertain guests.

Helping you find great deals on Class A motorhomes

How To Use Nadaguides for RV shopping – 5 easy steps

Have you ever wondered what decides how much we pay for cars, boats, and rvs? Who determines what is fair market value for an motorhome?

When researching prices for the class A units I feature on this website, I use Nadaguides because it is considered the most authoritative source for value comparison…but why?

The NADA story

Nadaguides (or NADA for short) stands for the National Automobile Dealers Association. Formed more than 100 years ago back in 1917, it is considered the bible for industry pricing on automobiles, boats, trailers, and motorhomes.

First a little history…

Nada as an organization that has its foundation rooted in political activism. In 1917 a group of about 30 dealers got together to form an association to go up against the federal government!

They had proposed to apply a 5% sales tax on the sales of all vehicles. So they went to Washington to convince congress that cars are a mass consumer good, not  a luxury item and that autos contributed for the good to the nation’s economic health.

Apparently they were effective in changing the minds of legislators because not only did they persuade congress not to apply the tax, they got them to decrease the already in effect luxury sales tax from 5% to 3%, and circumstantially prevented automobile factories from being converted to war factories during WWI.

Recognizing the ongoing need of an organization to tend to the political and economic interests of auto dealers, the first president of NADA was elected in Chicago in 1917.

NADA is the largest national trade group in the country. The prices listed on their consumer site reflect an average compilation of sales from hundreds of thousands of individual transactions from the busiest dealerships all across the country.  So they present a strong data point from which to base values.

Things to keep in mind:

  • The values listed on NADA are based strictly on data from participating member dealerships, which happens to be most major dealers in the country.
  • Most lenders use NADA exclusively when determining loan-to value ratings, making it an important consideration for determining what an rv can be sold and traded for in dealerships and therefore even in private sales.
  • Although no guide is 100% accurate in that it can reflect every possible data point given by the industry, Nada can be used effectively to negotiate prices in dealerships and to come up with ballpark price points for buying and selling privately.

How to use the NADA website

  1. go to nadaguides.com/RVs
  2. choose your rv type:

3. Research motor home by make and model….there are 100’s!

nadaguides research motorhome aclassrvsale

4. Put in the correct year, then click on the model in blue.

nadaguides make and model aclassrvsale

5. Once you click on the make and model you will be prompted to enter your zip code.

From there you will be taken to get base pricing. If it is a diesel motor home there is no need to put the mileage, but you will need to if it is gas.

nadaguides base pricing aclassrvsale

6. And voila`! You’ve  got a base price (what most dealers use) from which to compare on shopping for or selling your motorhome.

As you can easily see there is HUGE discrepancy between the suggested list price, low, and average retail.  Most of us are aware to never pay that!

There are other considering factors though, such as the condition of the unit, any options it may come with and seller incentives when you are gauging what is a fair price.

I get a special thrill when I find a motorhome that is being sold considerably beneath low retail. As long as it is clean and running efficiently it warms my heart to know I’m not being ripped off and am in fact being given a fair price.

The Bottom Line

Although the values in Nadaguides are an arbitrary measurement…they are still a very useful guide in terms of determining what is a fair market price.

I hope this post was helpful to you. Please drop me a line if you have any comments or questions.
